Final Approval Granted in Group Health Plan Litigation Data Privacy Settlement

Overview
On July 9, 2025, Judge Jerry W. Blackwell of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota granted final approval to a class action settlement in In Re: Group Health Plan Litigation, where Almeida Law Group and co-counsel represented the class alleging that Group Health Plan, Inc. d/b/a HealthPartners unlawfully disclosed personal health information through website tracking tools to third parties like Meta.
On July 9, 2025, the Honorable Jerry W. Blackwell, United States District Judge for the District of Minnesota, granted final approval of a class action settlement in In Re: Group Health Plan Litigation, Civ. No. 23-267 (JWB/DJF). Our Firm was very pleased and proud to work with Court-appointed co-lead counsel Gary Klinger of Milberg Coleman Bryson Phillips Grossman and Bryan Bleichner of Chestnut Cambronne PA as well as other accomplished professionals to obtain this extraordinary result for the settlement class.
The consolidated class action lawsuit alleged that Group Health Plan, Inc. d/b/a HealthPartners used certain tracking tools on its websites to disclose personal and/or health-related information of its patients to third parties such as Meta and Google. Judge Blackwell, in granting final approval, concluded that the proposed settlement was fair, reasonable, and adequate.
