On July 31, 2025, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) discovered that its systems had been compromised. The breach, which occurred on March 8, 2025, involved unauthorized access to sensitive personal information. Affected individuals were sent notification letters beginning on August 29, 2025, nearly five months after the breach date. While no lawsuits or regulatory actions have been reported, delays in discovery and notification may carry legal implications for impacted individuals.

What Information Was Involved?

According to AACN, the compromised data included names or other personal identifier in combination with additional data elements.

While full details of the impacted data were not released, this type of information can be misused for identity theft or fraud.

How Did AACN Respond?

Following the discovery of the breach, AACN engaged outside counsel and began notifying regulators and impacted individuals. As part of its response, AACN is offering:

  1. 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring
  2. Identity protection services provided by IDX

These services are designed to help individuals monitor their credit and identity activity, adding an important layer of protection in the aftermath of the breach.
