Attorneys at Almeida Law Group are investigating whether a class action lawsuit can be filed on behalf of individuals affected by a possible Wolfram Research data breach. According to dark web monitoring sources, a hacker group calling itself direwolf claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on Wolfram Research in a post first observed in September 2026, alleging it had gained access to internal company systems. As of this writing, Wolfram Research has not issued a public confirmation of the incident, and the exact scope of any exposed data remains unknown. If you believe you were affected, contact Almeida Law Group.

About Wolfram Research

Wolfram Research, Inc. is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Champaign, Illinois. Founded in 1987 by Stephen Wolfram, the company develops computational technology including its flagship product, Wolfram Mathematica, first released in 1988, as well as Wolfram|Alpha, the Wolfram Language, Wolfram Cloud, Wolfram System Modeler, and Wolfram Programming Lab. The company serves customers in education, research and development, and the sciences. Because no source identifies specific data categories tied to this incident, the type of information potentially involved is not known at this time.

What Happened?

On September 4th, 2026, Wolfram Research was listed on the dark-web leak site of the DireWolf ransomware group, as reported by Ransomware.live and corroborated by RedPacket Security and HackNotice. This is an attacker-side allegation only. Wolfram Research has not publicly confirmed or acknowledged any breach or ransomware incident, and no regulatory filing, victim notification, or official company statement has been found. The DireWolf listing for Wolfram Research does not specify whether the incident involved system encryption, data theft, or both, and provides no details about data volume, data types, ransom demands, or operational disruption.

DireWolf is a double-extortion ransomware group first observed in May 2025. Security researchers at Trustwave SpiderLabs and AhnLab ASEC have published technical analyses of the group, describing its use of Curve25519/ChaCha20 encryption and victim-specific encryptors. Halcyon assessed DireWolf as a genuinely new group with no infrastructure overlap with known ransomware operations. As of August 31st, 2026, the group had claimed 118 victims across 35 countries, with Technology (16%), Healthcare (15%), and Professional Services (15%) among the most targeted sectors. No prior publicly reported data breaches or security incidents were found for Wolfram Research.
