About First Advantage Corporation

First Advantage Corporation (Nasdaq: FA) is a publicly traded employment background screening and identity verification company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 2003, the company serves as a consumer reporting agency, providing background checks, drug and occupational health screening, and workforce monitoring solutions to more than 33,000 customers across over 200 countries and territories. This breach specifically involved its Drug & Occupational Health Screening Unit, where employee email accounts are used to handle information about job applicants and workers — making the exposure of names, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers particularly significant.

What Happened?

First Advantage Corporation was listed in a Texas Attorney General data security breach report (record ID BR-0005133) in connection with a phishing attack that compromised a single employee email account within its Drug & Occupational Health Screening Unit. An unauthorized actor gained access to the account on November 13th, 2025 and downloaded the contents of the employee’s email inbox. The breach was discovered on November 17th, 2025. The compromised information included names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and dates of birth. A total of 31,723 individuals were affected. First Advantage began notifying affected individuals by U.S. Mail starting approximately March through April 2026. The company offered 24 months of credit monitoring and identity theft protection through Cyberscout (TransUnion).

The same phishing attack also affected individuals associated with at least one other First Advantage client, Rich Products Corporation. This incident is at least the third publicly reported data security event involving First Advantage entities within roughly 12 months. A February 2024 Form I-9 breach compromised nearly 193,000 individuals and resulted in a $650,000 class action settlement filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. A separate November 2024 breach involved unauthorized access to Profile Advantage accounts using valid login credentials. No lawsuit has been filed specific to this November 2025 incident as of available reporting, but multiple law firms are actively investigating potential class action claims, including Bryson Harris Suciu & DeMay PLLC, Shamis & Gentile P.A., Cole & Van Note, Srourian Law Firm, Dapeer Law P.A., and Emery Reddy PC.

What Should You Do?

If you received a notification letter from First Advantage Corporation, enroll in the 24 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection through Cyberscout (TransUnion) before any enrollment deadline stated in your notice. Whether or not you enroll, consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with each of the three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to help prevent new accounts from being opened in your name. Review your credit reports for unfamiliar accounts or inquiries at AnnualCreditReport.com, where you are entitled to free reports from each bureau. Because Social Security numbers and driver’s license numbers were exposed, remain alert to signs of identity theft such as unexpected bills, collection calls, or changes to your credit file, and report any suspected misuse at IdentityTheft.gov.
