About Nissan North America Inc.
Nissan North America, Inc. is the North American headquarters and a wholly owned subsidiary of Nissan Motor Corporation of Japan. Based in Franklin, Tennessee, it designs, develops, manufactures, and markets Nissan and Infiniti brand vehicles through a network of approximately 1,082 Nissan and 211 Infiniti dealers across the United States, and also provides consumer and corporate automotive financing through Nissan Motor Acceptance Company. The breach exposed Social Security numbers and financial account information, which are among the most sensitive categories of personal data and carry significant risk of identity theft and fraud if misused.
What Happened?
Nissan North America Inc. was listed in a Texas Attorney General data security breach report (record BR-0005144) published on June 26th, 2026. The incident affected a total of 84,828 individuals. The compromised information included Social Security numbers and financial information such as account numbers and credit or debit card numbers. Nissan discovered the breach on June 10th, 2026 and notified affected consumers by email.
This appears to be a new and distinct incident, separate from Nissan’s prior data security events. Nissan has experienced a notable pattern of breaches in recent years: a 2022 breach through a third-party vendor’s system; a November 2023 ransomware attack via an external VPN that exposed data on more than 53,000 current and former employees and resulted in a $1.5 million class action settlement (Taylor et al. v. Nissan North America, Inc.); a 2024 cyberattack affecting customers and employees in Australia and New Zealand; a December 2025 breach of a Red Hat Consulting server exposing roughly 21,000 dealership customers in Japan; and a January 2026 incident in which the Everest ransomware group breached a third-party file transfer system serving Nissan and Infiniti dealerships, claiming to have stolen 910 GB of data. The final approval hearing for the 2023 breach settlement was scheduled for June 12th, 2026, just weeks before this new breach was reported to the Texas Attorney General.

What Should You Do?
If you received a notification letter or email from Nissan North America, take immediate steps to protect yourself. Because Social Security numbers and financial account information were exposed, you should place a fraud alert or credit freeze with all three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to help prevent new accounts from being opened in your name.
