About Pathfinder LL&D Insurance Group

Pathfinder LL&D Insurance Group is an independent insurance agency and brokerage headquartered in Houston, Texas, with additional offices in Austin and San Antonio. The company has been operating since 1913 and offers commercial and personal insurance products across multiple industries and states, partnering with carriers such as Nationwide, Progressive, and Travelers. It employs between 51 and 200 people.

What Happened?

Pathfinder LL&D Insurance Group was listed in a Texas Attorney General data security breach report (record BR-0005224), published on August 4th, 2026. According to that filing, the breach occurred between September 6th, 2025 and September 8th, 2025 and was not discovered until July 7th, 2026—a gap of roughly ten months. A total of 7,970 individuals were affected. The compromised information included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, government-issued ID numbers, financial account information, medical information, health insurance information, and dates of birth. Notifications were sent by U.S. Mail, posted to the company’s website, and broadcast through Texas-wide media.

The Play (Playcrypt) ransomware group posted a claim on its dark web leak site around September 15th, 2025, alleging it had obtained data from Pathfinder LL&D Insurance Group, with an estimated attack date of September 8th, 2025 per Ransomware.live—a timeframe that aligns closely with the breach window reported to the Texas Attorney General. According to Claim Depot, the Play group also claimed the stolen data included client documents, payroll records, accounting files, tax data, and financial information, and announced plans to publish the data within four to five days of posting. These are attacker-side claims and have not been independently confirmed by Pathfinder or any regulator; the company has not publicly confirmed ransomware involvement. Play is a well-documented ransomware group subject to a joint FBI/CISA advisory and had approximately 900 known victims as of May 2025. Multiple law firms—including Shamis & Gentile P.A., Migliaccio & Rathod LLP, Srourian Law Firm, and Wucetich & Korovilas LLP—have announced investigations into potential class action claims, though no filed lawsuit has been confirmed as of August 4th, 2026.

What Should You Do?

If you received a notice from Pathfinder LL&D Insurance Group, review it carefully for information about any identity theft protection being offered and enroll before any stated deadline. Because Social Security numbers, financial account information, medical information, and health insurance information were among the data types exposed, you should consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with the three major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Monitor your bank and credit card statements for unauthorized transactions and check your credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com. Given that medical and health insurance information was involved, review your Explanation of Benefits statements and request copies of your medical records to check for unfamiliar charges or treatments. If you spot signs of identity theft, report them at IdentityTheft.gov.
