About Ray Riding Motors, Inc.

Ray Riding Motors, Inc. does business as Wills Point Chevrolet and operates as a new and used automobile dealership at 660 Houston St. in Wills Point, Texas. According to the Better Business Bureau, the business has operated since 1978 and has maintained a local presence in Wills Point since 2001. It is also known by the alternate names Ray Ridings Buick GMC and Ray Ridings Motors, Inc. The breach exposed a combination of personal, financial, and medical information, making it particularly significant for those affected.

What Happened?

Ray Riding Motors, Inc. was listed in a Texas Attorney General data security breach report (record BR-0005125), published on June 22nd, 2026. The incident affected 491 individuals in total. The compromised information included names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and medical information. Affected individuals were notified by U.S. Mail.

The Akira ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack on March 13th, 2026, posting about it on their Tor-based leak site. The estimated attack date of February 23rd, 2026 aligns with the breach date reported to the Texas Attorney General. Notably, the company did not discover the breach until May 1st, 2026—more than two months after the attack occurred and nearly seven weeks after the ransomware group had already publicly claimed credit. According to supplemental reporting, Akira claimed to have obtained sensitive documents including scanned personal employee documents, passports, driver’s licenses, W-9 forms, bank statements, financial records, and various agreements, though these specific document types are not confirmed in the Texas Attorney General filing. As of June 22nd, 2026, no formal class action complaint had been filed in court, though at least one law firm has opened an investigation and is soliciting affected individuals.

Key Facts at a Glance

What Should You Do?

If you received a notice from Ray Riding Motors, Inc. or Wills Point Chevrolet, take immediate steps to protect yourself. Place a fraud alert or credit freeze with the three major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion—to make it harder for anyone to open new accounts in your name. You can request a free copy of your credit report at AnnualCreditReport.com and review it carefully for unfamiliar accounts or activity. Monitor your existing financial accounts for unauthorized transactions. Because medical information was among the data exposed, you should also review any Explanation of Benefits statements from your insurer and check your medical records for services you did not receive. If you suspect misuse of your information, report it at IdentityTheft.gov, which provides a personalized recovery plan.
