Hudson River Partners I L.P., operating as The Thayer Hotel in West Point, New York, has reported a significant data security incident that affected 33,053 individuals, including 86 Maine residents. The breach was discovered on October 17, 2025, after an external system hack compromised parts of the hotel’s network. The unauthorized access likely exposed sensitive information such as names and personal identifiers belonging to guests or employees.

The hotel issued a substitute notice to affected individuals on November 3, 2025, offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through Kroll Security.

Were You Affected By this Breach?

According to preliminary information, data hackers accessed systems via an external vulnerability, potentially exposing names and other personal identifiers. If you suspect you were harmed by The Thayer Hotel breach, here’s what you can do immediately:

  1. Use the free Kroll monitoring provided by the hotel.
  2. Watch bank and credit card statements for unfamiliar charges.
  3. Pull your credit reports and dispute any accounts you don’t recognize.
  4. Consider a fraud alert or credit freeze to block new credit openings.

Understanding Data Breaches

A data breach occurs when unauthorized parties access or exfiltrate sensitive information. Common vectors include phishing, malware, and unpatched system flaws. Consequences can include identity theft, account takeovers, financial loss, and long-term privacy harms.
