About University of Dallas

The University of Dallas is a private Catholic liberal arts university founded in 1956, located in Irving, Texas, in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It operates three academic units—the Braniff Graduate School of Liberal Arts, the Constantin College of Liberal Arts, and the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business—and maintains a study-abroad campus in Rome, Italy. Because the university collects personal and financial information from students, faculty, and staff, a breach of its systems carries significant risk of identity theft and fraud for those whose records were stored there.

What Happened?

University of Dallas was listed in a Maine Attorney General data breach filing reported on May 29, 2026. According to UD’s notice letter and the Maine filing, an unauthorized actor gained access to certain UD systems between August 11 and August 20, 2025, and may have accessed files without permission. The breach was not discovered until May 7, 2026—approximately nine months after the intrusion. Consumer notifications were sent on May 29, 2026. The Maine filing confirms that the exposed information includes names and Social Security numbers. The total number of persons affected was not disclosed in the Maine filing. UD offered 12 months of Experian IdentityWorks three-bureau credit monitoring at no cost to affected individuals, with an enrollment deadline of September 30, 2026.

According to a ClaimDepot report referencing the Texas Attorney General filing, the broader breach affected 7,313 Texas residents, and the data types exposed in that filing include driver’s license numbers, government-issued ID numbers, financial account information, medical information, and health insurance information—in addition to names and Social Security numbers. No ransomware group or specific threat actor has been publicly attributed to this incident. No class action lawsuit had been filed as of May 30, 2026, though the breach was publicly reported only the day prior.

What Should You Do?

If you received a notice from the University of Dallas, you should enroll in the free Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring before the September 30, 2026 deadline—contact UD’s dedicated call center at 833-918-4942 for enrollment assistance. You should also consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) to reduce the risk of someone opening new accounts in your name. Review your credit reports for unfamiliar accounts or inquiries at AnnualCreditReport.com, and monitor your existing financial accounts for suspicious activity. If you believe your information has already been misused, report it at IdentityTheft.gov, which provides a personalized recovery plan. Because medical information and health insurance information may also be involved for some affected individuals, review any Explanation of Benefits statements from your insurer for services you did not receive, and request a copy of your medical records to check for inaccuracies.
