The Almeida Law Group represents consumers in a newly filed federal class action challenging the legality of Polymarket’s online sports wagering and prediction market platform. The case is being handled by Almeida Law Group’s California Managing Partner Wesley M. Griffith and Of Counsel David McGee.
On February 11, 2026, a class action complaint was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York alleging that Polymarket operates an unlawful sports gambling enterprise throughout the United States. The complaint alleges that Polymarket markets itself as a legal “prediction market” while offering unlicensed sports betting contracts on game outcomes, player performance, and other sporting events in violation of state gambling and consumer protection laws.
“No one is above the law,” said California Managing Partner Wesley M. Griffith. “This includes Polymarket. Our lawsuit seeks to put an end to these unlawful gambling practices.”
According to the filing, Polymarket allegedly misrepresented the legality of its platform nationwide, inducing consumers to place wagers that had no lawful value and would not have been made if accurate disclosures had been provided. The lawsuit further details Polymarket’s expansion into the U.S. market following its 2025 acquisition of a CFTC-licensed exchange and alleges that this structure was used to disguise illegal gambling activity.
The action seeks to recover gambling losses and hold Polymarket and its affiliated entities accountable for allegedly operating an unlawful betting platform and failing to implement adequate consumer safeguards.
The case is styled Yoon v. Blockratize, Inc. d/b/a Polymarket, No. 1:26-cv-01160, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
