Washington Gastroenterology Data Breach–What You Need to Know & What to Do Next

Are You a Victim of a Data Breach?
Washington Gastroenterology reported a data breach after an unknown third party accessed sensitive patient information, including medical data. Learn what happened, what was exposed, and what steps to take next.
On or about March 10, 2025, Washington Gastroenterology (WAGI) discovered that certain data had been accessed and exposed by an unknown third party. The healthcare provider promptly secured its systems and launched an investigation into the nature and scope of the incident.
During the investigation, WAGI identified that a legacy system (not its current networks or affiliated systems) was affected. Notices to impacted individuals began on May 23, 2025, and additional notices were sent later as more affected individuals were identified.
Exposed Information Due To the Breach
The investigation found that the exposed data may have included individuals’ names, Social Security numbers, and medical information. Because this information is highly sensitive, those affected face an increased risk of identity theft, medical fraud, and other forms of misuse.
How Did Washington Gastroenterology Respond?
WAGI took several steps in response to the incident, including:
Confirming that current systems and networks remained secure.
Engaging a third-party forensic firm to conduct a full investigation.
Identifying and notifying all impacted individuals.
Offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services through IDX for a specified membership period.
Impacted patients may enroll in these services at https://response.idx.us/wagi/ using their enrollment code before the November 22, 2025 deadline.
What Should You Do If You Were Affected By the Breach?
If you received a notification from WAGI, you should:
Enroll in the free IDX credit monitoring and identity restoration services.
Monitor your financial and medical accounts for suspicious activity.
Review your free annual credit reports at www.annualcreditreport.com.
Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with the major credit reporting agencies.
