What Is the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA)?
There is a federal law known as the Telephone Consumer Protection Act or the TCPA, which prohibits companies from placing prerecorded voice calls or voice messages to cell phones without prior express consent from the user of or subscriber to the cell phone.
Legal Remedies for Unwanted Calls and Texts
If you have received unwanted prerecorded calls or text messages, you may be entitled to collect between $500-$1,500 per illegal call or text by filing a lawsuit against the offending company. Additionally, if you are on the national “Do Not Call” registry, it is illegal for a company to call you more than once in a 12 month period without prior consent.
