What Happened?
On August 27th, 2026, Ransomware.live reported a dark web leak-site claim by the Akira ransomware group listing Cetylite as a victim. In the claim, Akira alleges it will upload approximately 6 GB of corporate data and describes that data as including employee personal information such as passports, driver’s licenses, Social Security numbers, and credit card information, along with client information, detailed financials, confidential files, and NDAs. These are attacker-side allegations only. No independent corroboration has been found from news outlets, regulatory filings, attorney general notices, or the company itself, and no company statement has been issued confirming the incident.
Akira is a well-documented ransomware-as-a-service group active since April 2023 that uses a double extortion model, combining data theft with encryption. Security researchers have linked the group to more than 1,400 claimed victims and at least $245 million in ransom payments. Akira is known to target manufacturing organizations and commonly gains initial access through VPN services lacking multi-factor authentication. No prior breaches or litigation involving Cetylite were found in available records.
