About Hasbro, Inc.
Hasbro, Inc. is an American multinational toy manufacturing and entertainment company headquartered in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Founded in 1923, it designs, manufactures, and markets toys, games, and consumer products under well-known brands including Monopoly, Transformers, Nerf, Play-Doh, Peppa Pig, Magic: The Gathering, and Dungeons & Dragons. It is one of the largest toy makers in the world and is publicly traded on NASDAQ under the ticker HAS. The breach involved sensitive employee data, including Social Security numbers and financial account information, making affected individuals potential targets for identity theft and financial fraud.
What Happened?
Hasbro, Inc. was listed in a Vermont Attorney General breach report summary dated October 7th, 2026. The incident involved unauthorized access to Hasbro’s network, first identified by the company on March 28th, 2026. Hasbro disclosed the incident to the SEC via Form 8-K on April 1st, 2026, took systems offline, activated incident response protocols, and engaged third-party cybersecurity firms. The breach disrupted operations including order processing, shipping, and invoicing. According to SEC filings, Hasbro estimated approximately $25 million in revenue impact and $11 million in direct incident costs. After a five-month forensic review, the company began mailing breach notification letters in August 2026. The Vermont AG filing reports that the breached data categories include Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, financial account codes, and credit and debit card account information. Hasbro’s notification letters also referenced names, email addresses, physical addresses, and phone numbers as potentially involved.
In September 2026, Hasbro told Massachusetts regulators that the attack originated through vishing (voice phishing) and social engineering via a compromised employee account. No ransomware group has publicly claimed responsibility, and Hasbro has not confirmed any ransomware involvement. A putative class action lawsuit, Standing v. Hasbro, Inc., Case No. 1:26-cv-00219 (D.R.I.), was filed on April 16th, 2026, by former employee Sheila Standing. Plaintiffs allege negligence in protecting employee personal information and seek monetary damages, injunctive relief, stronger cybersecurity measures, and lifetime credit monitoring. Hasbro’s Q2 2026 10-Q acknowledged the case but stated the company does not believe it to be material.

What Should You Do?
If you received a breach notification letter from Hasbro, review it carefully to confirm which of your personal details were exposed. Place a fraud alert or credit freeze with each of the three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to help prevent new accounts from being opened in your name. You can request free annual credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com and should monitor those reports closely for unfamiliar accounts or inquiries. Because Social Security numbers and financial account information were involved, watch your bank and credit card statements for unauthorized transactions and consider setting up account alerts with your financial institutions. If you experience signs of identity theft, report them and get a recovery plan at IdentityTheft.gov.
