About Del Monte Foods Corporation II Inc.
Del Monte Foods Corporation II Inc. is a leading American producer, distributor, and marketer of packaged food products, including canned fruits, vegetables, tomatoes, broths, and snacks sold under brands such as Del Monte, Contadina, College Inn, Kitchen Basics, JOYBA, Take Root Organics, and S&W. The company is headquartered in Walnut Creek, California, and operates as a U.S. indirect subsidiary of Del Monte Pacific Limited. It is a separate entity from Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2025 and completed the sale of substantially all of its assets across all business segments by March 19th, 2026, meaning the cyberattack occurred while those bankruptcy proceedings were still underway.
What Happened?
Del Monte Foods Corporation II Inc. was listed in a California Attorney General sample breach notice filed on October 29th, 2026. According to the company’s own notice, Del Monte learned on February 9th, 2026, that it had experienced an issue impacting network operability and immediately launched an investigation with the help of independent cybersecurity experts. The investigation determined that certain files were acquired without authorization. A comprehensive review of those files was completed on or about August 20th, 2026, at which point Del Monte confirmed that personal information was contained in the affected files. The company then worked to verify mailing addresses, completing that process on October 20th, 2026, before issuing consumer notifications. The notice confirms that affected individuals’ names were involved; the specific additional data categories per individual are referenced through a template field in the public California AG sample filing and are not fully disclosed there. The Vermont Attorney General filing reportedly identifies Social Security numbers as an affected data category.
The ransomware group known as “Payoutsking” publicly claimed responsibility for an attack on Del Monte Foods on April 30th, 2026, alleging an attack date of February 19th, 2026, and claiming 1.2 TB of exfiltrated data. These are attacker-side allegations and have not been publicly confirmed by Del Monte, whose notice uses neutral language describing “an issue impacting network operability” and files “acquired without authorization.” A third-party analysis of alleged leaked data published by DataBreach.com claims approximately 143,220 records were exposed, with data types including names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, vehicle identification numbers, license plates, and passport numbers — but these findings reflect a third-party review of alleged leaked data and are not confirmed by the company. Del Monte is offering affected individuals complimentary identity protection services through Kroll, including credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, a $1 million identity fraud loss reimbursement policy, and fully managed identity theft recovery services. No confirmed class action lawsuit related to this breach was identified, though several legal marketing websites have listed the incident and are soliciting potential plaintiffs.
