About Advanced Power Services (NA) LLC

Advanced Power Services (NA) LLC is a privately held company that develops, owns, and manages modern power generation and related infrastructure projects throughout Europe and North America. It is the North American subsidiary of the Advanced Power group, a Swiss-based energy company. The Better Business Bureau categorizes it as a Power Plant Consultants firm with approximately 12 employees and offices in Boston, Massachusetts and Houston, Texas. Because the company’s breach notification involved highly sensitive financial and government identification data, the exposure carries significant identity theft and fraud risk for those affected.

What Happened?

Advanced Power Services (NA) LLC was listed in a Vermont Attorney General breach report summary filed on August 18th, 2026. According to state filings and supplemental reporting, the company detected suspicious network activity on November 12th, 2025. An investigation determined that an unauthorized third party accessed a portion of its network over a period spanning August through November 2025. The compromised data includes Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, driver’s license information, financial account numbers, financial account codes, and credit and debit account information. The company began notifying affected individuals and filed breach reports with state regulators on August 17th and 18th, 2026—approximately nine months after the intrusion was detected. The company is offering affected individuals Experian IdentityWorks identity-theft-protection services, with an enrollment deadline of September 30th, 2026.

Separately, on December 5th, 2025, the Akira ransomware group claimed responsibility for an attack on advancedpower.ch, the Swiss parent entity, on its Tor leak site, alleging it obtained 51 GB of data including employee records, financial information, contracts, and NDAs. This is an attacker-side allegation only. Advanced Power Services (NA) LLC has not publicly confirmed ransomware as the cause of the incident; state AG filings describe only unauthorized network access without naming a threat actor. Two law firms—Federman & Sherwood and Shamis & Gentile P.A.—have announced investigations into the breach for potential class action, though no lawsuits have been filed yet.

What Should You Do?

If you received a notification letter from Advanced Power Services (NA) LLC, enroll in the Experian IdentityWorks identity-theft-protection service being offered before the September 30th, 2026 deadline. You should also place a fraud alert or credit freeze with all three major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion—to help prevent new accounts from being opened in your name. Review your credit reports for unfamiliar accounts or inquiries at AnnualCreditReport.com, where you are entitled to free reports from each bureau. Monitor your existing bank and credit card accounts closely for unauthorized transactions, and report any suspected identity theft or fraud to the Federal Trade Commission at IdentityTheft.gov, which can help you create a personalized recovery plan. Given that Social Security numbers and financial account information were involved, remaining vigilant over an extended period is especially important.
