Attorneys at Almeida Law Group are investigating whether a class action lawsuit can be filed on behalf of individuals affected by a possible AmSpec data breach. According to dark web monitoring sources, a hacker group calling itself Helix claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on AmSpec in a post first observed in August 2026, alleging it had gained access to internal company systems. As of this writing, AmSpec has not issued a public confirmation of the incident, and the exact scope of any exposed data remains unknown. If you believe you were affected, contact Almeida Law Group.
About AmSpec
AmSpec Group is a global testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) company founded in 1986, headquartered in Cranbury, New Jersey. The company provides independent analysis and inspection services for crude oil, petroleum products, petrochemicals, renewables, metals and minerals, agricultural feedstocks, and food, operating across more than 200 locations in 150+ countries. Because AmSpec works with industrial clients across the energy, agriculture, and petrochemical sectors, its systems may contain commercially sensitive business data as well as employee personal information — though the specific data types involved in this alleged incident have not been identified.
What Happened?
On August 22nd, 2026, the ransomware group Helix posted a claim on its dark web leak site alleging it had compromised AmSpec. The post stated: “AmSpec is live. T1 unlocks on the current 24-hour cadence, then 24 hours per remaining tier.” This language appears to describe a tiered data publication schedule rather than a description of the contents of any stolen data. No specific data types were identified in the claim. Ransomware.live, which flagged the claim, noted that Helix should be treated with caution as an emerging group until independently verified. No independent corroborating source confirming this incident was found. AmSpec has not issued any public statement, consumer notification, or regulatory filing related to this claim.
Separately, Breachsense and Ransomware.live attribute a prior ransomware claim against AmSpec to the Qilin group, first observed around August 6th–7th, 2026 — approximately two weeks before the Helix claim. The Ransomware.live entry for the Helix claim notes it may be a potential duplicate of another entry, suggesting the two claims could relate to the same underlying incident, though Ransomware.live also acknowledges that an organization can be targeted by different groups independently. Qilin is a well-established Russian-speaking ransomware-as-a-service operation first detected in 2022. Helix is a newer data extortion group that emerged in July 2026; according to ReliaQuest, its tradecraft closely mirrors the now-defunct BlackFile group and involves vishing and device code phishing to bypass security controls and exfiltrate data. Neither claim has been confirmed by AmSpec or any regulator, and no breach-related class action against AmSpec has been filed.

What Should You Do?
Even though this incident has not been confirmed by AmSpec, it is reasonable to take precautionary steps now. Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with the three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to make it harder for anyone to open new accounts in your name.
