About AssetMark, Inc.

AssetMark, Inc. is a wealth management platform headquartered in Concord, California that provides custodial, recordkeeping, trust, and investment-related services to financial advisors and their clients. Founded in 1996, the company serves more than 10,000 financial advisors and over 300,000 investor households. It is a subsidiary of AssetMark Financial Holdings, Inc., which is itself a subsidiary of Huatai Securities Co., Ltd. Because AssetMark handles the financial and personal records of a large number of investor households, a breach of its systems can expose highly sensitive data across a broad population.

What Happened?

AssetMark, Inc. was listed in a Texas Attorney General data security breach report (record ID BR-0005113) published on June 18th, 2026. According to AssetMark’s own breach notification letter, on May 15th, 2026, an unauthorized user gained access to and downloaded files containing customer information after a sophisticated phishing attack compromised the login credentials of one AssetMark employee. The company identified suspicious activity tied to those credentials and, by May 18th, 2026, had determined which individuals’ personal information was contained in the breached files. AssetMark began notifying affected individuals by U.S. Mail on June 11th, 2026. The breach affected approximately 570,000 individuals in total. The compromised data included names, Social Security numbers, financial account information, and government ID numbers, with some notices also listing addresses, account numbers, and Tax ID numbers depending on the individual. AssetMark stated that no client assets were compromised and that login credentials, banking information, and core operating systems were not affected. Complimentary credit monitoring was offered to affected individuals.

This incident is separate from an earlier disclosure made by AssetMark Trust Company — an affiliated subsidiary — which reported a distinct breach to the Texas Attorney General on May 8th, 2026, covering a breach period of March 17th, 2026 to April 9th, 2026 and affecting approximately 9,158 individuals. As of the time of this writing, no class action lawsuit has been filed in connection with the May 15th, 2026 AssetMark, Inc. breach, though multiple law firms are actively investigating potential claims.
