About Frontline Education
Frontline Education, legally Frontline Technologies Group LLC, is a leading provider of K-12 school administration software headquartered in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1998 and now a subsidiary of Roper Technologies (NASDAQ: ROP), it supports more than 10,000 K-12 organizations nationwide through solutions that span Human Capital Management, Student Solutions, and Business Operations. Its platforms include Frontline Central, an employee management system used for functions such as payroll, hiring, and substitute teacher administration, and School Health Management, a student nursing documentation platform. Because these platforms process sensitive personal data for both school employees and students, a security incident affecting them carries significant risk for a broad population.
What Happened?
Frontline Education disclosed the incident in a notice published on the organization’s website on October 26th, 2026. On August 14th, 2026, Frontline’s security team identified a vulnerability in an unidentified third-party software product that had allowed unauthorized access to a portion of its environment, specifically the Frontline Central and School Health Management platforms. Unauthorized activity ended on August 15th, 2026. Frontline investigated with an independent cybersecurity firm, remediated the vulnerability, and engaged law enforcement. After a thorough analysis of the affected files, Frontline determined that the following data elements were exposed: Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, other government IDs, Medicaid IDs, and Student IDs. The specific data involved varied by individual. District notifications began around October 1st, 2026, with individual notification letters issued starting on or about October 26th, 2026. Frontline is offering two years of credit monitoring and cyber monitoring for minors at no cost through TransUnion.
The breach affected both employee data through Frontline Central and student data through School Health Management. BleepingComputer first reported the incident on October 2nd, 2026, based on a reader-shared notification. Cybernews reported that 50 million students use Frontline’s software, and Greenwood School District in South Carolina confirmed that approximately 17,000 current and former students were impacted. The identity of the third-party software product exploited has not been publicly disclosed. A federal data breach class action has been filed in Pennsylvania federal court, with a motion to consolidate filed on October 15th, 2026. Multiple law firms are in the investigation and early filing stage, and no ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

What Should You Do?
If you received a notification from Frontline Education, you should enroll in the two years of free credit monitoring and cyber monitoring offered through TransUnion before the enrollment deadline stated in your notice. Beyond that, consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with each of the three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to make it harder for anyone to open new accounts in your name. Review your credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com and monitor your financial accounts regularly for any unauthorized activity. Because Medicaid IDs and Student IDs were among the exposed data types, check any government benefit statements or school records for signs of misuse. If you believe you are a victim of identity theft, visit IdentityTheft.gov for step-by-step guidance.
