Attorneys at Almeida Law Group are investigating whether a class action lawsuit can be filed on behalf of individuals affected by a possible HandyTrac Greystar AZ WARNING data breach. According to dark web monitoring sources, a hacker group calling itself ShadowByt3$ claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on HandyTrac Greystar AZ WARNING in a post first observed in September 2026, alleging it had gained access to internal company systems. As of this writing, HandyTrac Greystar AZ WARNING has not issued a public confirmation of the incident, and the exact scope of any exposed data remains unknown. If you believe you were affected, contact Almeida Law Group.

About HandyTrac Greystar AZ WARNING

HandyTrac is an electronic key control systems provider founded in 1995 and headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia. It is the largest provider of electronic key control systems in the multifamily housing industry, serving more than 20,000 customers and over six million units nationwide through cloud-based key management and biometric verification systems. Greystar Real Estate Partners, LLC, founded in 1993 and headquartered in Charleston, South Carolina, is the largest apartment operator in the United States, with more than 1.1 million units and beds under management across approximately 260 markets globally. The attacker claim appears to target HandyTrac’s cloud-based key control portal as used at Villas Litchfield Park, a Greystar-managed rental community of approximately 153 single-story villa homes in Litchfield Park, Arizona.

What Happened?

HandyTrac and Greystar’s Villas Litchfield Park property were named in a ransomware leak-site allegation reported by Ransomware.live. On September 16th, 2026, the ransomware group ShadowByt3$ posted a dark-web claim alleging it had locked property management and maintenance staff out of HandyTrac’s key control portal (new.handytrac.com) used at the Litchfield Park property. The group set a negotiation deadline of September 22nd, 2026, and claimed to possess data including physical-to-digital key maps, property intelligence and vulnerability logs, employee identity and credential data, financial and vendor records, and administrative portal access. These are attacker-side allegations only and have not been confirmed by HandyTrac, Greystar, or any regulatory authority. No independent corroborating source confirming the breach was found. Third-party monitoring services HackNotice and DeXpose indexed the claim on September 16th, 2026, noting that ShadowByt3$ claimed responsibility for an attack on HandyTrac, but their reporting relies on the same dark-web post. ShadowByt3$ does not appear as a widely documented group in established threat intelligence sources, and the claim remains unverified.

Separately, Greystar Real Estate Partners, LLC filed a data breach notification with the Massachusetts Attorney General dated August 27th, 2026, referencing a security incident impacting its environment. That filing predates the ShadowByt3$ claim by roughly three weeks. Whether the two incidents are related cannot be confirmed from publicly available sources.

Key Facts at a Glance

What Should You Do?

If you are a resident, employee, or vendor associated with Villas Litchfield Park or with HandyTrac’s key control system, you should take precautionary steps now. Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with each of the three major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion—to help prevent unauthorized accounts from being opened in your name. Review your credit reports for any suspicious activity at AnnualCreditReport.com, and monitor your financial accounts closely. If you believe your personal information may have been exposed, visit IdentityTheft.gov for step-by-step guidance on protecting yourself. Because the attacker claimed access to employee credential data, employees should also change any passwords associated with systems they use for this property and enable multi-factor authentication wherever possible.
