Attorneys at Almeida Law Group are investigating whether a class action lawsuit can be filed on behalf of individuals affected by a possible HandyTrac (Greystar Litchfield Park, AZ) data breach. According to dark web monitoring sources, a hacker group calling itself ShadowByt3$ claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on HandyTrac (Greystar Litchfield Park, AZ) in a post first observed in September 2026, alleging it had gained access to internal company systems. As of this writing, HandyTrac (Greystar Litchfield Park, AZ) has not issued a public confirmation of the incident, and the exact scope of any exposed data remains unknown. If you believe you were affected, contact Almeida Law Group.

About HandyTrac (Greystar Litchfield Park, AZ)

HandyTrac is a provider of electronic biometric key control systems serving the multifamily housing, student housing, and military housing industries. Founded in 1995 by John and Debra Lie-Nielsen, the company is headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia, and reports serving more than 20,000 customers and over six million units nationwide. The ransomware group’s claim names “Greystar Litchfield Park, AZ” alongside HandyTrac, which appears to reference a property managed by Greystar Real Estate Partners—the largest apartment operator in the United States—located in Litchfield Park, Arizona. It is not clear from the available information whether the alleged attack targeted HandyTrac’s central systems, a specific Greystar property installation, or both.

What Happened?

HandyTrac (Greystar Litchfield Park, AZ) was listed in a ransomware leak-site allegation reported by Ransomware.live on September 15th, 2026. The group calling itself ShadowByt3$ claimed to have stolen sensitive data and threatened to publish it unless the target negotiated within 72 hours. The group’s post alleged that the stolen data included physical-to-digital key maps, property intelligence and vulnerability logs, employee identity and credential data, financial and vendor records, and administrative portal access. These are attacker-side claims only and have not been confirmed by HandyTrac, Greystar, any state regulator, or any independent news outlet. No consumer notification date or total number of affected individuals has been reported.

The claim was secondarily indexed by RedPacket Security, but no independent corroboration from a victim-side or regulatory source has been found. Security researchers have assessed ShadowByt3$ as a relatively low-credibility threat actor. A detailed threat intelligence report from Barricade Cyber Solutions describes the group as demonstrating “consistently amateur tradecraft,” including broken Windows builds, leaked source code, AI-generated documentation with visible ChatGPT prompt artifacts, and a Bitcoin wallet showing no significant ransom payments. Multiple cybersecurity firms, including CyPro, have characterized ShadowByt3$—which first emerged in October 2025—as a group known for making unverified or fabricated claims. The group has made similar allegations against organizations including the University of Georgia and Nottingham Trent University without those organizations confirming the incidents. Given this context, the allegation against HandyTrac should be treated with particular caution unless independent confirmation emerges.
