What Happened?
HTH Companies, Inc. was listed in a Texas Attorney General data security breach report (record BR-0005492), published on November 6th, 2026. The filing identifies a breach that occurred between February 16th, 2026 and February 18th, 2026, and was not discovered until June 15th, 2026—approximately four months later. A total of 694 individuals were affected. Compromised information included names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, government-issued ID numbers (such as passports and state ID cards), financial account information, medical information, and health insurance information. Affected individuals were notified by U.S. Mail.
Separately, the Akira ransomware group claimed HTH Companies as a victim on its dark web leak site, with that posting first observed by dark web monitoring sources on March 4th, 2026. The Akira group alleged it would upload more than 60 GB of data and claimed that the files included employee personal records, NDAs, contracts, project documents, financials, and other confidential files. These are attacker-side allegations that HTH Companies has not publicly confirmed. The breach dates reported to the Texas Attorney General (February 16th–18th, 2026) precede the Akira posting date (March 4th, 2026), a sequence consistent with a ransomware intrusion timeline, though the two incidents have not been officially linked. Secondary reporting of the Akira claim has also appeared at HookPhish. No class action lawsuits or public litigation specifically connected to this breach were found in available sources.

What Should You Do?
If you received a notification letter from HTH Companies, Inc., take steps now to protect yourself. Because the exposed data includes Social Security numbers, financial account information, medical information, and health insurance information, your risk of identity theft and financial fraud is elevated. Place a fraud alert or credit freeze with all three major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion—and monitor your credit reports regularly through AnnualCreditReport.com. Review your bank and credit card statements for any unauthorized transactions. Because medical and health insurance information was involved, also carefully review any Explanation of Benefits statements from your insurer and check your medical records for services you did not receive. If you detect signs of misuse, report them at IdentityTheft.gov.
