What Happened?

Key Facts at a Glance

What Should You Do?

If you received a notice from Markel Insurance, review it carefully for any identity theft protection or credit monitoring services being offered and enroll before any stated deadline. Because Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and medical information were involved, you should place a fraud alert or credit freeze with all three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — and monitor your credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com. Watch your financial accounts closely for any unfamiliar charges or activity, and report suspected identity theft at IdentityTheft.gov. Since medical information was compromised, review any Explanation of Benefits statements from your insurer and check your medical records for services you did not receive, which can be a sign of medical identity theft.
