About May Trucking Company
May Trucking Company is a family-owned truckload carrier founded in 1945 and headquartered in Salem, Oregon. The company hauls dry freight across western states and refrigerated cargo throughout the United States, operating a fleet of more than 900 tractors from terminals in multiple states. Social Security numbers were among the data types confirmed as affected in this breach, making the potential for identity theft a serious concern for anyone whose information was involved.
What Happened?
May Trucking Company was listed in a California Attorney General sample breach notice filed on August 13th, 2026. According to the company’s breach notice, on June 21st, 2026, May Trucking detected suspicious activity within its network and immediately launched an investigation with the help of independent cybersecurity specialists. The investigation determined that certain files were acquired without authorization at the time the suspicious activity was detected. On July 23rd, 2026, the company learned that personal information belonging to affected individuals was contained in those files. May Trucking notified the FBI and engaged a third-party vendor to send consumer notifications. The compromised information included first and last name and Social Security number. The total number of persons affected was not specified in the filing.
On June 30th, 2026, the Embargo ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack and alleged it had exfiltrated 1 TB of data from May Trucking, threatening to release it if demands were not met. This is an attacker-side claim reported by DeXpose, a dark web monitoring platform, and has not been confirmed by May Trucking Company or any regulator. May Trucking’s own breach notice describes only “suspicious activity” and “files acquired without authorization” and does not name a threat actor or mention ransomware.

What Should You Do?
If you received a notice from May Trucking Company, you should enroll in the complimentary IDX identity protection services before the November 13th, 2026 deadline using the enrollment code provided in your notice. Because Social Security numbers were exposed, consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with the three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to make it harder for someone to open new accounts in your name. Monitor your existing financial accounts and credit reports closely for any suspicious activity. You can obtain a free copy of your credit report from each bureau once every 12 months at AnnualCreditReport.com or by calling 1-877-322-8228. If you discover signs of identity theft, report them to the FTC at IdentityTheft.gov, notify your state attorney general, and contact local law enforcement.
