About Northeast Professional Caregivers

Northeast Professional Caregivers is a locally owned home care provider founded in Canton, Ohio more than 25 years ago. It delivers non-medical personal care, homemaking, and senior companion services through Medicaid HCBS waivers, VA programs, and private pay across offices in Alliance, Akron, Canton, Mansfield, and Ravenna, Ohio. The company serves Carroll, Columbiana, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas, and Wayne counties.

What Happened?

Northeast Professional Caregivers was listed in an HHS Office for Civil Rights breach portal report submitted on June 22nd, 2026. The filing categorizes the incident as a Hacking/IT Incident involving email, with no business associate involved, and lists 500 individuals as affected.

According to a Canton Repository report published June 26th, 2026, the company discovered unauthorized access to company email accounts on April 23rd, 2026. The breached accounts contained names, addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth belonging to current and potential patients. The company stated that no financial information was involved and that there is no evidence any information has been misused.

This is the second email-based breach reported by Northeast Professional Caregivers. In approximately October and November of 2024, the company reported a separate incident involving unauthorized access to an employee email account. That breach exposed a marketing list containing names, addresses, phone numbers, and types of services sought. CEO Dale Wells stated at the time that no sensitive medical, financial, or Social Security information was included in that incident, and the company implemented two-factor authentication in its aftermath.

Key Facts at a Glance

What Should You Do?

If you received notice that your information was involved in this breach, you should take steps now to protect yourself. Place a fraud alert or credit freeze with the three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to make it harder for someone to open new accounts in your name. Monitor your existing accounts and credit reports closely, and request your free annual credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com. If you suspect your information has already been misused, visit IdentityTheft.gov for guidance on reporting and recovery. Because the breached data included dates of birth, that information could be combined with other details to facilitate identity theft, so ongoing vigilance is especially important.
