What Happened?
NSE Insurance Agencies was listed in a California Attorney General sample breach notice. According to the breach notice, NSE detected unauthorized access to its network on or about November 28th, 2025. The unauthorized access occurred between November 6th, 2025, and November 29th, 2025. NSE’s investigation determined on August 24th, 2026—approximately nine months after the incident—that certain files containing personal information may have been accessed and acquired. The notice indicates that the compromised information includes full names and Social Security numbers. NSE is offering a complimentary membership in Equifax Credit Watch Gold to affected individuals. The California Attorney General notification was filed on September 24th, 2026.
The Chaos ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack on its dark web leak site on December 11th, 2025, alleging it had obtained 500 gigabytes of data from NSE and threatening to release it unless negotiations commenced. This is an attacker-side allegation and has not been confirmed by NSE. Chaos is described as a Ransomware-as-a-Service operation first observed in early 2025, known for double-extortion tactics. The Srourian Law Firm has announced it is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against NSE Insurance Agencies in connection with this breach; however, no filed complaint had been identified as of September 2026.
