About Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club
Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club is a 429-acre hospitality resort located in Brewster on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Established in 1986, the resort features a Nicklaus Design golf course, a private beach, multiple restaurants, a spa, pools, and luxury hotel rooms and villa accommodations overlooking Cape Cod Bay. The property centers on a historic mansion originally built in the 1890s and employs an estimated 501 to 1,000 staff. Because the resort collects guest and employee information in the course of its operations, a breach affecting Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, and health records carries meaningful identity theft and financial fraud risks for those whose data was involved.
What Happened?
Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club was listed in a Vermont Attorney General breach report summary dated August 25th, 2026. According to the company’s own press release, issued on August 25th, 2026, Ocean Edge became aware of suspicious activity within its network on July 31st, 2025. An investigation determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to the network between July 22nd, 2025 and July 31st, 2025 and copied certain files. The information potentially affected varies by individual but may include names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, and medical information. The Vermont Attorney General filing categorizes the breached data as Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, and health records. Ocean Edge states it has no evidence that the exposed data has been used fraudulently to date.
Notably, there is an approximately 13-month gap between the date Ocean Edge says it discovered the suspicious activity and the date it issued public notice. Separately, the Nitrogen ransomware group posted a claim regarding Ocean Edge on its dark web leak site around August 20th, 2025, according to Ransomware.live and corroborated by the independent threat intelligence account eCrime.ch. That claim is an attacker allegation only. Ocean Edge’s own press release does not name any threat actor or confirm ransomware involvement. No prior breaches involving Ocean Edge were identified, and no class action litigation connected to this specific incident has been identified as of August 26th, 2026.

What Should You Do?
If you received a notification from Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club, review any identity theft protection offer included with the notice and enroll before the deadline if one is provided. Place a fraud alert or credit freeze with the three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to make it harder for someone to open new accounts in your name. Monitor your existing financial accounts closely for unauthorized transactions and request your free credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com to check for unfamiliar activity. Because health records and Social Security numbers were among the data types involved, also review your Explanation of Benefits statements from your health insurer and check your medical records for services you do not recognize. If you spot signs of misuse, report them at IdentityTheft.gov, which offers step-by-step recovery guidance.
