PeopleGuru Holdings, Inc., a software company that partners with employers to help manage payroll operations, recently confirmed a cybersecurity incident that exposed certain personal information.

On July 9, 2025, PeopleGuru discovered that an unauthorized third party had accessed parts of its network. A full investigation revealed that the intrusion occurred between July 6 and July 9, 2025, during which some files may have been viewed or taken without authorization.

After securing its systems and reviewing the affected data, PeopleGuru determined that personal information belonging to employees and clients of its partner organizations may have been involved. On October 16, 2025, the company began sending written notices to those affected.

What Information May Have Been Exposed

According to PeopleGuru, the affected data may include:

  1. Names
  2. Social Security numbers
  3. Financial account information
  4. Dates of birth
  5. Passport numbers
  6. Driver’s license numbers
  7. Medical and health insurance information

While PeopleGuru stated that it has no evidence of identity theft or fraud resulting from the breach, this type of personal information is extremely sensitive. Once exposed, it can be misused for identity theft, financial fraud, or impersonation scams – sometimes months or years after the initial incident.

What PeopleGuru Is Doing to Help

PeopleGuru reports that it took immediate steps to secure its network, investigate the incident, and prevent similar events in the future. To support those affected, the company is offering:

  1. 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity restoration services through TransUnion’s Cyberscout
  2. Guidance on credit protection, including how to place fraud alerts or freezes
  3. Dedicated assistance for individuals with questions about the incident

These services provide daily credit monitoring, identity restoration support, and proactive fraud assistance to help protect your personal and financial information.

What You Can Do to Protect Yourself

If you received a notification letter from PeopleGuru, it’s important to act quickly to minimize risk:

  1. Enroll in the free credit monitoring services through Cyberscout within 90 days of receiving your notice.
  2. Review your bank, credit card, and loan statements for unfamiliar charges or accounts.
  3. Check your credit reports regularly for errors or new inquiries you don’t recognize.
  4. Be cautious of unsolicited emails or calls asking for personal or financial information.
  5. Report any suspicious activity immediately to your financial institution or the credit bureaus.
