About Plaza Home Mortgage, Inc.

Plaza Home Mortgage, Inc. is a privately-owned national wholesale and correspondent mortgage lender founded in 2000 and headquartered in San Diego, California. The company originates loans through wholesale and correspondent channels and is licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Because the breach involved mortgage loan application and servicing data alongside government identification numbers and Social Security numbers, the exposed information is the kind that can facilitate identity theft and financial fraud.

What Happened?

Plaza Home Mortgage, Inc. was listed in a Maine Attorney General filing reported on June 5, 2026. According to the filing and the consumer notice, the incident involved unauthorized access to one employee’s computer on or around February 17, 2026. Plaza discovered the breach on March 3, 2026, but did not notify affected individuals until May 29, 2026—roughly three months after discovery. A total of 137,976 persons were affected. The potentially exposed information included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license or other government identification numbers, and information related to mortgage loan applications and servicing. For employees, the notice administrator’s reporting indicates that company account usernames and passwords were also among the data exposed. Plaza offered 12 months of credit monitoring and identity theft services through CyEx’s Financial Shield program at no cost to affected individuals.

The ransomware group SilentRansomGroup publicly claimed responsibility for the attack on February 27, 2026—ten days after the breach date reported to Maine—and threatened to release sensitive data if ransom demands were not met. No class action lawsuit has been filed as of early June 2026, though law firm Shamis & Gentile P.A. is publicly investigating the breach for potential class action claims, and the breach is listed on ClassAction.org’s tracking page.

What Should You Do?

If you received a notice from Plaza Home Mortgage, enroll in the 12-month CyEx Financial Shield credit monitoring program using the instructions provided in your notification letter. Beyond that, consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to limit the ability of anyone to open new accounts in your name. Monitor your existing financial accounts closely for unauthorized activity, and review your credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com for any accounts or inquiries you do not recognize. If you suspect your information is being misused, visit IdentityTheft.gov to report the activity and get a personalized recovery plan. Given that Social Security numbers and mortgage loan data were involved, staying vigilant over the coming months is especially important.
