About Powerhouse Retail Services
Powerhouse Retail Services LLC is a commercial facilities services company headquartered in Crowley, Texas. It provides multi-site rollout, refresh, remodel, staffing, merchandising, exterior maintenance, and facilities maintenance services nationwide, and employs approximately 899 people as of 2026. Because the company works with a large workforce across many locations, it collects and retains sensitive personal and financial information about employees and contractors—making a breach of that data particularly significant for those affected.
What Happened?
Powerhouse Retail Services was listed in a Vermont Attorney General breach report summary published September 16th, 2026, identifying Social Security numbers as the category of data involved.
According to the company’s own notification letters filed with multiple state attorneys general, on or about September 20th, 2023, Powerhouse became aware of potentially unauthorized access to its network due to a ransomware cybersecurity incident. The company says it immediately contained the threat and engaged external cybersecurity professionals, who determined that an unauthorized party potentially accessed or removed data from its environment. After a manual review of the impacted files, Powerhouse determined on January 22nd, 2026 that personal information was involved. Written notifications to affected individuals were sent on February 3rd, 2026. The confirmed data types include names, Social Security numbers, and financial account numbers and access information. A total of 7,856 individuals were affected nationwide. Powerhouse offered 12 months of credit monitoring and identity protection through Epiq Privacy Solutions. The approximately 28-month gap between the incident date and consumer notification is notable and has drawn scrutiny.
A putative class action lawsuit, David Ramirez v. Powerhouse Retail Services, LLC (Case No. 26cv484746), was filed on or about January 16th, 2026, in Santa Clara County, California, and was later also docketed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The plaintiff alleges Powerhouse failed to properly secure personal information. The case is listed as open. At least two additional law firms—Shamis & Gentile P.A. and Srourian Law Firm—have publicly announced investigations into potential class action claims related to this breach. Separately, the Chaos ransomware group claimed Powerhouse as a victim on May 28th, 2026, on its dark web leak site. That claim is attacker-side only and has not been confirmed by Powerhouse or any regulator; it may relate to the September 2023 incident or may represent a separate event.
