RKA Consulting Group, an engineering and consulting firm, detected unusual activity in its systems on January 8, 2025. The company immediately disconnected affected systems and brought in forensic cybersecurity experts to investigate.

How Did the Data Get Leaked?

The investigation revealed that an unauthorized party had accessed parts of RKA’s network for a limited time and may have viewed certain files between January 8 and February 25, 2025. After reviewing those files, RKA determined that personal data belonging to some individuals was potentially exposed. Notifications were sent beginning October 27, 2025.

What RKA Consulting Is Doing to Protect Affected Individuals

To help those impacted, RKA Consulting partnered with Cyberscout, a TransUnion company, to provide twelve months of free credit monitoring and fraud assistance. These services include credit report alerts, access to a current credit score, and identity restoration support. The entity has also taken steps to improve its cybersecurity measures, including updating passwords, restricting access, and enhancing system monitoring.

What You Can Do If You Were Affected

If you received a letter from RKA Consulting, it’s important to act quickly to reduce your risk. Enroll in the free credit monitoring service within ninety days of receiving your notice and keep an eye on your financial and credit accounts for unfamiliar activity. You can also contact the major credit bureaus to place a fraud alert or credit freeze if you notice anything unusual.

When personal information like your Social Security number or date of birth is exposed, the risks can last for years. Even long after a breach is resolved, stolen data can circulate through criminal networks and be used for fraud, tax scams, or impersonation. Beyond the financial impact, data breaches can also cause stress and uncertainty as victims deal with credit monitoring, false accounts, and the fear of identity theft.
