About Turner Construction Company
Turner Construction Company is the largest domestic construction contractor in the United States by revenue, generating $20.24 billion in 2024. Founded in 1902, the company is headquartered at 66 Hudson Boulevard East in New York, New York, and is a subsidiary of the German firm Hochtief. Turner employs more than 16,000 people and works across major market segments including healthcare, education, commercial, sports, aviation, pharmaceutical, retail, and green building. Because Turner employs a large workforce across multiple countries, its systems hold the kind of sensitive employment and financial records that make it an attractive target for unauthorized access.
What Happened?
Turner Construction Company was listed in a California Attorney General sample breach notice filed on August 18th, 2026. According to that filing and Turner’s own breach notice, unauthorized access to certain Turner systems occurred between July 2nd and July 15th, 2026. On July 27th, 2026, Turner confirmed that files containing personal information had been accessed without authorization. Turner notified approximately 6,098 California residents on or about August 18th, 2026 and also notified federal law enforcement.
The exposed data may include one or more of the following for each affected individual: name, Social Security number (for U.S. individuals), Social Insurance Number (for Canadian individuals), date of birth, salary, bank account information used for direct deposit, and home address. For a limited number of individuals, a passport number may also have been involved.
Turner is offering five years of credit monitoring at no cost to affected individuals through IDX and IDShield. No ransomware group has publicly claimed responsibility for this specific incident. A separate ransomware claim made on August 14th, 2026 by a group called “coinbasecartel” targeted Turner and Townsend, a different UK-headquartered company, and should not be confused with this incident. This is the second known data security incident for Turner Construction Company; in 2016, a spear phishing attack resulted in the exposure of employee W-2 tax information, including names and Social Security numbers. No class action litigation connected to the July 2026 breach had been filed as of August 19th, 2026.

What Should You Do?
If you received a notice from Turner Construction Company, enroll in the five-year credit monitoring offer through IDX and IDShield as soon as possible and note any enrollment deadline provided in your letter. Because Social Security numbers, bank account details, and passport numbers were among the data types potentially exposed, you should also consider placing a fraud alert or a credit freeze with the three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to limit unauthorized use of your information. Review your bank and financial account statements closely for any unfamiliar transactions. You can obtain a free copy of your credit report from each bureau at AnnualCreditReport.com and check them for accounts or inquiries you do not recognize. If you suspect your information has already been misused, visit IdentityTheft.gov for step-by-step guidance on reporting and recovering from identity theft.
