What Happened?

Weintraub Traub Tracy & Virk CPA’s LLP (doing business as tax1040.com) (“Weintraub”) has been listed on ransomware tracking sites following a November 10, 2025 cyberattack. The firm, which maintains a significant corporate client base and over 50,000 LinkedIn followers, claims the attack affected only a subset of its systems. However, security experts note that when ransomware gains access to one folder or system, adjacent data stores are often similarly compromised.

The potential scope of exposure is substantial. Accounting firms routinely collect and store some of the most sensitive categories of personal information: Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, bank account information, tax identification numbers, complete tax returns (including income, deductions, and dependent information), W-2s and 1099s, corporate financial statements, and payroll records for business clients.

What Information Was Involved?

While the specific categories of compromised data have not been publicly disclosed, the breach may have involved sensitive information.
